On my trip through Banff National Park in May 2002, we camped at the Castle Mountain campsite near Lake Louise. Looking up at the mountain I had this sense that I wanted to climb it. I went and bought Alan Kane's "Scrambles in the Canadian Rockies" and off we (Jason Kennedy and I) went in August 2002 as my holiday after the release of Neverwinter Nights. Along the way we stopped at waterfalls, visited Kootenay National Park and drive the Icefields Parkway. But the important thing was that we also summited Castle Mountain.
It was an easy scramble, but which we made into an epic by leaving most of the water behind accidentally. It was a forced death march for me at the end as I was completely dehydrated with salt coming out my pores. A lesson learned, painfully.
